A Basement Remodel in progress:

You will see this unfold in major section steps. First we have the unfinished basement. While very dry and roomy it's not living space. But it will be!

Click on any image to see a large view. Be patient the images are large.

The main large section of the basement before work begins.

A side view of the wet area before we started working.

The Wet area laundry sink and washer. The sink must go, it leaks.

The furnace and HW heater.

Another view of the heating system.

This is the rest of the laundry. The owner has to walk 15 feet to place the clothes in the dryer.

Here you see the back of the stairway to the basement. This will need some work.

The sidewall behind the stairway. We will make a closet here. The power panel will be in the closet.

At a guess. there is about a 24" space at the base of these stairs. It's very difficult to bring things down them, such as bulky furniture. We will have to fix this.

This is the framing in the main left side room.

Another view from the side of the main room. The furnace is on the other side of this wall.

Here you see a view of the bathroom entrance. The angled studs are for the stack and the furnace room.

Rough in forming the bathroom.

The new furnace installed and boxed in.

Here is the framing around the main stack. I left room for a door for access.

Side view of stack room.

An overview of the wet room area. More framing is needed to close the wet room in.

The angle studs give the required clearance for the HW heater vent. Without the box look.

This is the corner where the water meter is framed in. A door will be built to allow access.

Now we have a nice landing that adds some much needed space at the base of the stairs.

I jacked up the stairs a good 5" to level the treads, added a 2x2 to the rear and closed the backs. These feel much better now.

No more metal post. And the closet is all framed to hide the electrical panel and give the customer some much needed storage space.

Here is the rough in of the new bathroom.

From left to right there will be a shower, Toilet, and Vanity.

Well it's time to start the stair area. Here we see the rock on the stair wall and the frame work for the shelving that will sit in front.

Now the framing is in place and ready for the sheet rock. Who owns that body?

With the face of the shelving rocked it is starting to take on some shape.

Now you get the idea. I felt it would be better to have something on the side of the stairway rather than just a plain wall.

Thanks to my better half Cheryle for remembering to take some pictures. She was my helper today. That was nice.

Here we have the left wall of the main room with built in CD racks.

A wide shot of the main room. Note the floor is done in DRIcore sub floor. A very nice product.

The drop ceiling and lighting gives the basement a well lit appearance. No gloominess allowed.

The angled ceiling keeps the headroom and not the boxed look.

This is the finished shelving from above. It mimics the stairs and give the customer a bit more display area.

The side room is an extension of the main room. Left open and a large walk in closet is behind the door.

Another angle of the side room showing the wet room entry. The sofas will soon be in use again.

This is 10' x 11' room built for an office or den. Let's see what it gets used for. The doorway while untrimmed as of yet is hiding the water meter. The windows were boxed and let a lot of light in. Enough room was left for curtains to be added.

The doorway to the Den / office.

An Alcove in the wet room showing the furnace room. Louvered doors are used for ventilation. Even furnaces have to breathe.

The washer is away from the wall but this is the hallway in the wet room. Leading to the commode and shower area.

The laundry area with wash tub.

The vanity and toilet are waiting for the vinyl floor to go down. They will then be installed.
Well the carpet and trim are done. Here are some finished pictures. Probably the last of the remodel. It's been fun. Empty.

The full shot of the main room with carpeting in.

The side room. We still have to adjust some doors.

A side view of the stairway with shelving.

A view with post showing.

Here is the landing that allows a bit more comfort entering.

Another view of the shelving unit that was built to utilize the space.

Vinyl floor is down in wet room.

A shot of the furnace room. Louvered doors are here for air flow.

Vanity and toilet. Shower is on the left.

Here is the shower wall.

And last the laundry area.

It's been a great project. Come back and see more.
